Tucked away between South San Francisco and San Mateo, San Bruno stretches from the lowlands of the Bay side to the more secluded, open space of its hilly western edge. The established community of San Bruno invites new homebuyers to explore its convenient location, and its close proximity to all that the Bay Area has to offer. Right by San Francisco International Airport, what began as a former stagecoach stop soon grew into a train station, and eventually the San Bruno we know today. Perhaps once best known as home to the notable Tanforan Racetrack, The City of San Bruno now offers up a collection of homes, schools, shops and recreational opportunities.

Most real growth in San Bruno began after the turn-of-the-century, and really began to take off with a major housing boom and population explosion following WWII, especially into its western hills. That’s why today you’ll find some century-old cottages in San Bruno, but an even larger collection of post-war bungalows and mid-century neighborhoods. From the modest single-story homes of Mills Park to the winding roads, high hills and more secluded setting of Pacific Heights, a majority of homes for sale in San Bruno are well-kept, mid-century homes, some of which provide sweeping views of the surrounding area. This holds true in the western neighborhood of Portola Highlands too, with its open space and quiet setting. Of course, in more recent years there have been some newer condos, apartments and even newer construction homes that have joined this traditionally more established community.

Still, a large number of mid-century homes exist across the city. As one of San Bruno’s oldest neighborhoods, the mostly working-class neighborhood of Belle Air Park sits within walking distance of downtown shops, restaurants and the Caltrain. It’s that convenience that draws many to San Bruno, as residents can also easily jump on the BART, the Caltrain or the freeway and head into San Francisco. The city also offers the delight of nearby recreation, like the rec center, hiking trails and green space of San Bruno City Park, or the hiking trails and serenity of Junipero Serra Park.
