🏘 Are you considering making a move to the beautiful San Carlos, located in the heart of the Peninsula in San Mateo County? As a local to the peninsula and realtor intimately familiar with the area, I can attest to the numerous perks that come with living in this vibrant community. There is a reason San Carlos is known as "The City of Good Living." From its scenic vistas to its diverse culinary scene, San Carlos offers a delightful blend of suburban tranquility and urban convenience. Let's explore the top five reasons why San Carlos might just be the perfect place for you to call home. 💞
1. Stellar School District: 🍎 🎒
San Carlos boasts an exceptional school district, making it an ideal destination for families. Schools like Arundel Elementary, Central Middle School, and Carlmont High School consistently receive high marks for academic excellence and extracurricular offerings. Carlmont offers multiple paths including Biotechnology Institute (BTI) is a three-year, cross-curricular program that offers science-themed English and social studies classes as well as a series of courses in biotechnology. Carlmont also offers 8 honors courses and 21 AP courses. Not to mention that over the last three years, 76% of seniors went onto a 4 year college (the state average is only 26% moving onto a 4 year college). Families feel confident knowing that their children are receiving a top-notch education in a supportive and enriching community.
2. Culinary Delights: 🍽 🥘
Foodies rejoice! San Carlos is a haven for culinary enthusiasts, with a diverse array of dining options to tantalize your taste buds. Start your day with a delicious breakfast at the beloved Omelette House, known for its fluffy pancakes and hearty omelets. Another good choice for locals is grab a bagel at House of Bagels, or grab a classic breakfast at My Breakfast Place. For lunch or dinner, head over to Town Restaurant, where you can indulge in modern American cuisine crafted from locally-sourced ingredients. Craving some authentic Italian fare? Don't miss Domenico's, a neighborhood favorite renowned for its mouthwatering pasta dishes and wood-fired pizzas. Looking for a place to bring the whole family, dogs included? Head over to Devil’s Canyon Brewery every Friday evening. Here you and the fam can enjoy a rotation of local food trucks, a good beer, and live music. Other standouts include: The original location of The Refuge on Laurel. Noelani’s is a popular destination for those longing for a tropical vibe, food, and cocktails. Drakes can be found at the corner or El Camino and San Carlos Ave. Drakes is housed in one of the most iconic buildings in San Carlos. The building was developed almost a century ago, when developer Frederick Drake was rising to prominence. The restaurant’s name is a nod to him. The list goes on and on!
3.Outdoor Recreation: 🌲 ⛹️♀️
Nature lovers will find plenty to explore in San Carlos and its surrounding areas.Burton Park is a large park featuring baseball fields, basketball hoops, tennis courts, bocce courts, water features for young children, a new playground, an amphitheater for live music, and ample space to spread out for a picnic. Burton Park is really the crown jewel of parks in San Carlos, and maybe even throughout the peninsula. Events are happening year round here, so be sure to check those out as well- good chance, Mister Softee Ice Cream truck will be there for those! Big Canyon Trail is a 3.9-mile out-and-back trail off of Brittain Avenue. Generally considered a moderately challenging route, this is a popular trail for birding, hiking, and running, but you can still enjoy some solitude during quieter times of day. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Dogs are welcome, but must be on a leash. Whether you're picnicking with family or enjoying a peaceful solo hike, San Carlos provides ample opportunities to connect with the great outdoors.
4. Community Events and Activities: 🍉 🌭
San Carlos prides itself on its strong sense of community, which is evident in the plethora of events and activities held throughout the year. Since 1979, the annual Hometown Days Celebration unofficially kicks off the summer season, featuring live music, carnival rides, a fun run, pet parade, food trucks, and art contests. Hometown days is the quintessential San Carlos event. The popular Art & Wine Faire occurs in mid-October, and showcases local artisans and wineries. For those looking to move here from other parts of the county, it should be noted that mid-October is actually the most pleasant time of the year, and often the hottest. For folks with young families or aeronautic enthusiasts, The Hiller Aviation museum is a great place to visit. They often have seasonal events for the community such as Santa or the Easter bunny flying through on a helicopter. There's always something exciting happening in San Carlos. Residents can also participate in recreational sports leagues, join community groups, or attend educational workshops to further enrich their lives and forge meaningful connections with their neighbors.
5. Convenient Location: 🛣 🚉
Situated midway between San Francisco and Silicon Valley, San Carlos offers the perfect blend of suburban serenity and urban accessibility. Commuters will appreciate the city's proximity to major transportation thoroughfares like 101 and Caltrain, providing convenient access to employment centers and cultural attractions throughout the Bay Area. Whether you're commuting to work or embarking on a weekend adventure, San Carlos serves as an ideal home base for exploring all that the region has to offer. Many residents find San Carlos the perfect place between the city and the South Bay.
🏡 San Carlos is much more than just a place to live—it's a thriving community brimming with opportunities for education, recreation, and community activities. With its top-rated schools, diverse dining scene, abundant outdoor recreation, vibrant community spirit, and convenient location, San Carlos has something to offer everyone.
