There are all kinds of places to get your kids involved in activities and athletics outside of school, and one of them has a home right in San Mateo. Silicon Valley Elite, or just SVE for short, is a local cheerleading and fitness gym that’s found right on 42nd Avenue.
On a recent visit to SVE, I had the opportunity to talk to the owner and a couple of coaches about what they do, and what people can expect when they walk through the doors of SVE. Lessandro is the gym’s owner, but he’s also a coach and instructor. He says they have three different types of programs at SVE, depending on your skill level and how involved you want to be. The first program is what they refer to as a recreational program. It’s an open program at the gym that teaches the basics of tumbling.
He describes the gym’s prep program as a team program that’s one day a week. At the top is the elite program at SVE. This is a highly competitive program for athletes between ages four and 19. The year-round program means competing locally and nationally. Lessandro wants people to know that SVE is different from other cheer gyms out there.
Of course, they have cheer mats and a tumble mat, but they also have some CrossFit equipment, such as battle ropes, pullup bars, and a climbing bar. SVE is a cheer gym, but it’s also a fitness gym for kids and adults. And, because you’re in Silicon Valley, the teams at SVE take their names from tech terms.
