Design trends are always changing, so we’ve brought Lisa Silverman back today to continue our discussion on what’s en vogue right now.
Because there’s so much to cover on the subject of 2019 design trends, we’re back again with Lisa Silverman today to share even more information. If you missed the first part of our discussion, you can check it out here. Otherwise, let’s dive right in.
The first point Lisa brought up this time was to swap out your home’s “hardscapes” if need be. Hardscapes (things like bathroom tiles, countertops, etc) are some of the longest-lasting home features, and can really date a home if they don’t match current trends.
If your home was built in the 50s, for example, and still has the blue and teal tiling that was popular at the time, then it’s time to renovate. There is a huge difference between a property that has vintage charm and one that just looks outdated. If you want to bring your home into 2019, replacing old tiles is a great way to do so.
Upgrades like this are especially important if you plan to sell at any point. Homes that follow modern design trends are more likely to draw in a lot of buyers and generally sell for more money.
Even small changes, like adding new finishes to fixtures like faucets, knobs, and hinges, can have an impact. Lisa says brushed nickel and chrome are a couple of her current go-to finishes for such projects.
Another interesting design choice Lisa has implemented a lot lately is adding bamboo flooring, which is much more environmentally friendly than other kinds of hardwood. In general, Lisa tends to opt for natural options like this.
